HETiA Participates in the HCCC Information Day at NCSR “Demokritos”
Dr Emmanuel Zervakis, President of the Hellenic Emerging Technologies Industry Association (HETiA) and the Hellenic Chips Competence Centre (HCCC), participated in the HCCC Information Day held on Friday, 6 February 2026, at the premises of National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” (NCSR Demokritos).
In his opening remarks, Dr Zervakis highlighted the strategic importance of the Hellenic Chips Competence Centre as a national instrument aligned with the objectives of the European Chips Act and the broader European semiconductor strategy. He emphasized the need for strong coordination between government, research institutions, and industry in order to enhance Greece’s positioning within the European semiconductor value chain.
Dr Zervakis underlined that the mission of HCCC is not limited to policy alignment, but extends to the practical support of companies—particularly SMEs—through access to technical expertise, infrastructure, and specialized training services. He stressed that bridging research excellence with industrial application is essential for fostering technological sovereignty, competitiveness, and high-level skills development in the semiconductor sector.
The Information Day brought together representatives from industry, academia, and public authorities, reaffirming the collective commitment to strengthening Greece’s microelectronics, microsystems, and photonics ecosystem. The event was attended by senior government officials, including Stavros Kalafatis, Deputy Minister of Development; Dimitrios Terzis, Secretary General for Research and Innovation; and Konstantinos Karantzalos, Secretary General for Telecommunications and Posts, demonstrating high-level institutional support for the initiative.
As part of the programme, participants were introduced to the HCCC service catalogue and explored available technical services, training programmes, and collaboration opportunities tailored to SMEs and industry stakeholders. A guided visit to the Cleanroom facilities of NCSR “Demokritos” provided a first-hand view of the advanced semiconductor processing infrastructure supporting research, prototyping, and technology transfer in Greece.
The Information Day concluded with a shared understanding that strengthening national capabilities in microelectronics requires sustained cooperation between public authorities, research organisations, and industry partners. The HCCC continues to serve as a structured framework enabling this collaboration and supporting Greece’s active integration into the European semiconductor ecosystem.
