HETiA Informative Workshop on EU Chips Act Competence Centers Call, 05.07.2024, Athens

Athens, July 5, 2024 – The Hellenic Emerging Technologies Industry Association (HETiA) held an insightful workshop on the EU Chips Act, Competence Centers Call by Chips Joint Undertaking (JU), at the Divani Caravel Hotel in Athens. The event was within HETiA’s ongoing initiatives to promote awareness and understanding of the EU Chips Act, which aims to bolster the semiconductor industry across Europe.

During the workshop, attendees were briefed about Chips JU’s Multiannual Programme 2023-2027 initiatives, focusing on the 2024 Initiative, which includes the call for Competence Centers (Chips-2024-CCC-1) that has as deadline for submitting proposals the 2nd October 2024. National-level selection of eligible proposals preceding European-level submissions is needed.

HETiA’s proposal for a National EU Chips Competence Center was highlighted as a crucial component of Greece’s ten-year strategic plan for the microelectronics ecosystem. Key services proposed include providing training and upskilling opportunities, supporting technology transfer, facilitating access to pilot lines and the European Design Platform and aiding in the search for venture capital and investors. The workshop underscored the importance of a collaborative approach, leveraging existing organizations and structures to create synergies and avoid duplication.

HETiA, several public and non-profit research organizations, academic institutions, and supportive entities have joined in a consortium, aiming to create a robust network of expertise and resources. The governance of the proposed Competence Center is to be overseen by a steering council, that holds representation from HETiA, research institutions, academic entities, and the broader semiconductor industry.

HETiA’s initiative underscores its commitment to advance the semiconductor industry in Greece and to integrate more firmly into the European technological landscape. The association looks forward to continued collaboration and support from its members and stakeholders.
