Dr. Emmanuel Zervakis Featured in Startupper Mag Interview on Greece’s Semiconductor Future

Dr. Emmanuel Zervakis, President of the Hellenic Emerging Technologies Industry Association (HETiA) and the Hellenic Chips Competence Centre (HCCC), recently gave an in-depth interview to Startupper Mag, emphasizing the strategic importance of Greece’s new semiconductor initiative.

During the interview, Dr. Zervakis discussed about the HCCC, which officially launched on June 1, 2025 bringing together semiconductor companies—from startups to multinational corporations—alongside leading Greek research centres and universities. He noted that the HCCC is one of 30 European competence centres established in 2025 under the EU Chips Act, designed to boost semiconductor production, secure technological sovereignty, and attract strategic investments.

He underlined the critical importance of collaboration between industry, academia, and government in building a competitive semiconductor ecosystem in Greece. According to Dr. Zervakis, the HCCC will support startups and SMEs by providing access to advanced design infrastructure, promoting technology transfer, and delivering specialized training programs, including high-frequency circuit design, thereby enhancing Greece’s human capital.

Dr. Zervakis also added that HCCC will accelerate the commercialization of research outcomes, connecting innovators with venture capital and investors. “Microcircuits—including processors, sensors, and memory—are essential for modern technologies ranging from defense and maritime applications to medical devices,” he stressed. Recent studies project the global semiconductor market to reach $1 trillion by 2030, highlighting the growing strategic significance of the HCCC initiative for both Greece and Europe.

He concluded that the HCCC’s first initiatives will be presented at the Emerging Tech Forum by HETiA on December 11, 2025, positioning Greece as a regional hub for semiconductor research, development, and innovation.
